Sarah's Story: TV Production Internship in New York
This is Sarah!
Sarah is currently a student double majoring in Cinema and Communication at Denison University. Her passion for the entertainment and media industry inspired her to further her career by joining the ArtBound Initiative Program. She completed her internship with Caledonia Productions in NYC! Read more about her internship experience below.
Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for Caledonia Productions?
I would come into work at around 10 AM whether that be in person or remotely, and I would either listen in on any calls or work on assignments that have been given to me. The tasks I would often get were as follows: reading a script/play/book and writing up thoughts or coverage, researching or making lists of writers, actors, producers, or directors for potential projects, logging readings or finances, compiling photos for moodboards, researching what plays are on, and any other necessary tasks.
What was your favorite part about your internship?
My favorite part would be the opportunity I got to read professional scripts. It was a great practice and reference. Being able to listen in on calls has also proved to be helpful because I got to understand how the development process works from many different angles.
Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?
I think that it met my expectations in learning aspects, and I hope to be able use the practice and skills I have gained to improve my own writing and analysis. I also hope that I will be able to use my supervisor as a reference. Hopefully having at least 3 months of interning experience will help me stand out to future employers after graduation.
How would you describe the way ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?
I think ArtBound Initiative helped me by showing me that resources are available, and that there are many different ways that office work can present itself. I think I knew that there were all sorts of different kinds of management, but I never really thought about it before.
ArtBound's mock interview and career coaching processes were very helpful to me, providing a confidence boost.
