Sally's Story: Production Internship in Sydney
This is Sally!
Sally is a current student at the University of New South Wales studying Media. With several previous experiences in Photography and Film, Sally then landed a Production Internship with Found at Sea, a Sydney & Melbourne-based creative video production agency.
Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as a Production Intern for Found at Sea?
I began my days at Found at Sea at 10 am. Usually, I would receive tasks via email beforehand for the day, which involved working on projects from the previous day or tasks assigned to me in the morning. Additionally, we held Work in Progress (WIP) meetings on Monday mornings to share our progress on current projects. Nevertheless, days at the office were never boring; often, we would be out at the sound designer's studio, on a shoot, or at the colorist's for much of the day.
Throughout the internship, I was assigned a wide range of tasks, including completing production manager/assistant duties such as writing pre-production documents, including call sheets, assisting on shoots, shooting behind-the-scenes content, editing cut-down videos for clients, editing videos, and planning and strategizing for the company's social media growth, as well as copywriting for social media captions.
What was your favorite part about your production internship?
The most rewarding and enjoyable aspect of my internship was meeting and working with the team, and getting to see how professionals in my field work and communicate with one another. I acquired a variety of practical skills and knowledge, encompassing both soft and technical aspects.
Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?
This internship has definitely met my expectations. I knew that going into the role, three months would be too short of a time period to become completely well-versed in practical jargon and experience. Nevertheless, I have built upon my skills as a creative filmmaker, especially in the realm of social media.
How did ArtBound Initiative help you the most?
ArtBound's coaching program/platform was a massive help in learning how to advertise and talk about myself and my skills and strengths in a way that sounds beneficial to a company that is hiring. These skills have greatly improved how I engage in interviews, CV writing, and pitching moving forward, as well as how I talk about myself with others in general.
