Angus's Story: Event Management Internship in Melbourne

This is Angus!

Angus, a recent Creative Writing graduate from the University of Melbourne, is passionate about event planning, project management, and supporting fellow artists in building their networks. Through the ArtBound Initiative program, he kickstarted his journey by interning at Solution Entertainment. Read on to learn more about his experience!

Could you describe what your day-to-day looks like as an intern for Solution Entertainment?

The tasks vary from day to day, but they’re usually things I’ve gained experience in by now: proposal writing, pitching, event brainstorming, managing accreditations, copywriting, weaving a narrative and story into a pitch, and improving talent-facing processes. Along the way, there’s having a laugh with the team, telling and listening to stories, and silly conversations.

The environment was warm, energetic, and fast-paced—perfect for new ideas, which was amazing. The office culture was dynamic and agile, with great managers. It was also a very young team, which made social relatability much easier.

What was your favorite part about your internship?

My favorite part of the internship was working with the team and diving into all the writing tasks! Getting to know my coworkers was especially meaningful because they were so interesting and fun. I also really appreciated the surprise of being assigned so many writing tasks, which gave me a sense of fulfillment as I got to apply my university skills and creative passion in a real work setting.

Did your internship meet your expectations and how will it impact your career goals?

I will simply say it met my expectations by landing me an amazing internship! I’ve had great experiences, met incredible people, made new friends, and gained so much valuable work education. I got to work for the RMIT Graduation, running and managing the entertainment! As for my long-term career goals, this internship gave me the invaluable opportunity to hone my professional writing skills and even learn how to share those skills with the team.

How would you describe the way ArtBound Initiative helped you the most?

ABI helped me with the professional network. I gained so much value from the coaching sessions, conversations with my Program Coordinator Jason, and learning from alumni and staff through the educational materials. Plus, I got a paid internship too, and it was brilliant.

This internship gave me the invaluable opportunity to hone my professional writing skills and even learn how to share those skills with the team.
